Dear Homenetmen Athlete
Welcome to a new edition of our popular e-Marz newsletter! With this edition, we would like to congratulate all our members and readership on the 30th anniversary of Homenetmen London and hope you have all made plans to be part of the celebrations.
We are also pleased to announce that our men's football team who have for the last 2 years been playing in the Middlesex Division 6 Men's 11-a-side league, are currently in fifth place and will seek further success by participating at the 8th Pan Homenetmen Games in Armenia this summer to fly the flag for Homenetmen London.
As ever, we are keen to expand our activities and are hungry for new members and volunteers to help us realise our big ambitions and dreams. So please get in touch with us if you are interested in becoming a member of Homenetmen London and playing for any of our teams.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts and at our community events and until then as ever we hope you keep active and keep supporting your teams throughout the year.
Whilst we have much to be joyful about and report in this e-Marz, we are saddened and want to report the tragic loss of one of Homenetmen London's founding members, our beloved Yeghbayr Hrayr Der Grigorian, who passed away in Los Angeles earlier this year. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends...

Homenetmen London - 30th Anniversary
This year marks Homenetmen London's 30th anniversary. Though a lot has changed around the globe since the late 70s, the underlying ethos of Homenetmen has remained the same. We can look to see why this organisation exists, the ways in which it functions and why, above all else it must remain in this community for generations to come. Read more...

8th Pan-Homenetmen World Games
This summer, the football team will be representing Homenetmen London at the 8th Pan-Homenetmen World Games. The Games are held every four years and this year it will take place in Yerevan, Armenia from 1st - 8th August 2009.
The last time a team from Homenetmen London participated in these Games was in Beirut in 2001. Having skipped the 2005 Games in Athens, and now with some good league experience in hand, the team will return to fatherland for a tournament that is anticipated to be the best yet. Competing in tournaments across the world is something we are proud to provide our athletes, but this year is something special since it coincides with the 30th anniversary of Homenetmen London. The atmosphere will not compare to any other tournament our players will have attended due to the thrill of competing on Armenian soil.

The team is in need of sponsorship and financial contributions in order to enable them to attend and participate at this tournament. We are currently looking for sponsorship not only to cover attendance costs but also to buy sports kit such as team uniforms and bags. It is possible for a potential sponsor to have their logo featured on our kit not only for this tournament but also during our weekly league games. If you would like to make a financial donation, then please make your cheque payable to "Homenetmen-London" and send to P.O. Box 45985, Acton, W3 0WH.
Approximately 700 athletes along with hundreds of supporters will meet in Yerevan, all representing their individual chapters and countries, but coming together under the Homenetmen flag, truly embracing their Armenian identity. For more details, please visit www.homenetmen.org

Junior Football
With the success of the men's football team in both League and Cup Competition, there has been a recent push to provide the junior team with the same opportunities of success in the future.
The emphasis of these efforts is to provide the team with a technical base for the training sessions, currently being held on Saturday evenings at Acton High School, as well as competitive matches.
A special thank you to training coach Joseph Mirzaian for his efforts and contribution to the improvements seen in the junior team. With assistant coach Oshin Mehrabi, active member of the men's team, training is set to continue in the coming weeks, with a fresh new approach, designed to develop the full potential of the players. There will be more emphasis on skill training, fitness and team play, with regular coaching workshops planned from players in the men's team.
Currently the junior team is fortunate to have 16 talented players, of which most have had experience playing competitive matches, however more players are welcome to join the most exciting division of Homenetmen Marzagan. It is hoped that under the new guidance and direction, they will develop further and grow into the future stars of the Homenetmen London Football Team.

Men's Football Team
Flying the flag and shield for Homenetmen on the sporting front is a courageous and honorary task for every player or team; and our men's football team is currently doing so exquisitely. The team is participating in the Hayes & District Sunday League, and are in their second season. The team currently holds fifth position in the league table.
Having finished fourth in the league and made it to the cup final last year, it was going to be a tough obligation to sustain the achievements of last year. Nevertheless, the team is in line to win the Fair Play award with the best disciplinary record in the league, and our club secretary has been short-listed to win the club secretary of the year once again, having won it last season.

With great dedication and desire, the team train on Thursday nights from 9:00pm to 10:30pm at Hillingdon's state of the art 3G football pitches, and play their matches on Sunday mornings, meeting at 9:00am for a 10:30am kick off. This season the team has played some games in tough conditions, in ice, snow and sleet, but Captain Armen Seridarian has led the troops superbly and Arbie Ohanian has added 17 goals to the 28 he scored last season. Our team this season was boosted by the arrival of former junior team members, Artin Edgarian, Sevan Bazil and Joseph Thaddeus, who have played an important part on and off the pitch. In addition, our young Raffi Yeghikian and Edrik Avakian who have trained with the senior team this season and mastered the game skilfully will be first team players come September. We are always looking to recruit young players; if you want to join the team, either come to our training sessions, email us at sports@homenetmen.org.uk or join our Facebook group page!
Ladies' Basketball
Our multi-tournament winning ladies' team is currently on a recruitment drive. To maintain and build on fitness levels and skills, the regular players have been practicing alongside the men's basketball team in the interim. The structure of the training sessions is currently set to cater for both genders and all skill levels, focusing on drills in the first hour and free play in the second. This allows the team to keep up the momentum and the spirit for the game. Once additional players are recruited, both the ladies' and men's teams will revert to dedicated training sessions.
If you have the desire to join the team and play the game, then please approach us or email us at sports@homenetmen.org.uk.
Men's Basketball
In recent years our men’s basketball team has been blessed with the addition of a number of young players to continue the Homenetmen London basketball tradition. The team continues to practice every Tuesday night at the Heston Community Sports Hall with the aim of rejoining the Middlesex Basketball League later this year. We believe that after a few years of stagnation our basketball team has now got the right mix of youth and experience to once again compete effectively both at local league level and also to participate at future tournaments.
If you are a player, or non player, and would like to take part in the game, please e-mail us at sports@homenetmen.org.uk. You can even join our networking group "Homenetmen Men's Basketball Team". We practice & play, shoot & dunk, chat & challenge each other on Tuesdays, laced up at 8pm sharp at the Heston Community School Sports Hall. Join us!
