Summer 5-a-side Football Tournament
On Sunday 16th July, Homenetmen London held their Summer 5-a-side Football Tournament. The teams - made up of talented Armenian footballers from the community - came together to see who would be crowned the 2006 champions. After the group games were completed, Homenetmen London A, Homenetmen London B, Ararat London and Pleased 2 Beat U qualified for the semi-finals. The two semis were tense affairs, and a last minute winner from Ararat London ensured that they played the free scoring Homenetmen London A in the final. The Galacticos from the Homenetmen team produced some sensational football, and up until the recent World Cup I would have described it as 'just like watching Brazil' but not even Ronaldinho could get into this team. Congratulations to the players of Homenetmen London A for their tournament win, and many thanks to all the teams who took part and battled in the Sahara Dessert style weather conditions - not even Sven's men could have acclimatised in time.

Sponsored Walk
Homenetmen London's Scouts and Athletes joined forces on Saturday 17th June. The walk started at St. Sarkis church in Kensington and ended up at Acton High School via Hammersmith and Chiswick.
The group of 24 started walking in the sunshine with the group's veterans - Vahik Azizian and Vigen Halajian - taking the lead from the start. The Athletes showed their fitness levels by over taking the Scouts and even had time for a spot of lunch in Chiswick until they were caught, with the whole group finishing the walk together. A couple of hours of walking, tanning and bird watching raised £1600 for Homenetmen London.
Well done to all those who participated. We thank you for your efforts. Also a special thank you to everyone who was kind enough to sponsor us.

Andranik Teymourian
The most watched sports tournament in the world has come and gone, and what a feast we had. While the world was watching Ronaldo diving, Zidane mesmerising, and Beckham crying, Armenians around the world had one eye on our very own Andranik Teymourian and his world cup adventure. The 23 year old Armenian, selected to play for the Iranian national team did himself great justice. His best performance in Germany came against Angola with Iran drawing 1-1, having been beaten in their previous two games against Mexico and Portugal. He has been in outstanding form for his club, prompting local football writers to describe him as the 'next big thing' in Iranian football. A complete midfielder, he combines industry, tough-tackling, a good one-touch passing game with a powerful shot.
Teymourian played for Ararat Tehran, Keshavarz, Esteghlal and Oshab before switching to Abu Moslm two years ago. His talent coupled with his recent performances have inspired Premiership side Bolton Wanderers to offer him a trial in England. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has a keen eye for foreign talent and if Teymourian impresses he could see himself playing amongst superstars such as Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and Michael Ballack next season.
On July 26th it was reported that Teymourian's trial was successful. His current club president Nasser Shafaq confirmed the transfer was in progress and said that the deal would be completed within a week. If these press reports are indeed correct, congratulations to Andranik, and good luck in the Premiership!
