Sponsored Free Throw Shootout
On Sunday 19th March 2006, Homenetmen's basketball division which includes both the men's and the ladies' teams joined forces to raise more than £500 for Homenetmen London in what was the first event of its kind.
The players got the community and their greater social circle involved by inviting them to guess how many baskets the combined men's and ladies' teams would be capable of scoring from the free throw line during a strict 5 minute
period, supervised by our very own official basketball referee, Mr. Charles Malas. Each guess was worth £1 and gave the participant a chance to win £100 for a correct guess.
Under pressure because of the time constraints and the watchful eye of the small crowd of 'invested' spectators, the combined teams managed to score 29 legal baskets. In the end when all sponsorship forms were reviewed, only
three people had managed to guess the correct number of baskets. After drawing names out of a hat, the final winner was Mr Rene Mackertichian who generously donated back the prize money to Homenetmen London.
Overall the event managed to raise the profile of Homenetmen's basketball division and created and element of fun and excitement for both the teams and participants whilst raising much needed funds for our club.
A big thank you to all those who got involved for their participation and generosity.

The Champion's mindset
You first picked up a basketball or football because it was fun, right? It was fun to play with your friends and get some exercise. But then your idea of fun began to evolve. Competing began to give you a thrill. Your team winning began to be the definition of real fun. But a team can only be as good as the individuals that make up the team, so you decided to become better.
In fact, you want to be a cut above the rest and pull your team up with you. Playing against average players is not good enough anymore. In fact, whatever the level of your competition, you have a desire to play on a higher level. Your chosen sport is still fun for the same reasons it's always been, but now the fun goes deeper; it's now tied up with getting yourself and your team to the next level - maybe even to a championship.
Regardless of where you got the desire to become a champion, you must change, develop, and evolve how you view yourself. At this point, you must be willing to dump your excuses into the bin.
There's no one to blame for what you can or cannot do with the ball other than yourself. In fact, you must be ready to toss the whole blame-game into the same bin with the excuses. There can be no interest in reasons why you can't. Your mind must think like a champion before your body can follow.

VAHAN Made to Measure
What's in VAHAN?
VAHAN, in Armenian, which stands for "Shield" in English, is the official logo for Homenetmen. It symbolises defending freedom. It is coloured with Red, Blue and Orange to represent the colours of the flag of the Republic of Armenia. It has an inset of the Armenian letters HMEM, which stands for "Hai Marmnagrtagan Enthanur Miutiun", which translates in English into Armenian Cultural and Scouting Association. I have come across many flavours of the shield, obviously they all look alike and have the same motto, and I always wanted to know how to draw it from scratch and get it right. So after many hours of calculations and geometrical configurations, I derived a simple way to draw the shield in equal and homogeneous proportions, not forgetting to keep the shape and colours intact. The steps are shown below:
