Homenetmen Paris held their annual Souren Mouradian Games from May 17th to 19th 2007 at Issy Les Moulineaux. This year our ever present men's basketball team was joined by our newly formed senior men's 11-a-side football team.
The teams arrived late on Wednesday night in preparation for an early start to the Games on Thursday. The following teams were involved in this year's competition:
Basketball:
Homenetmen Paris
Homenetmen London
Homenetmen Toronto
UAS Geneva
ZAD Frankfurt
Football:
Homenetmen Paris
Homenetmen London
Homenetmen Marseille
Homenetmen Budapest
Both sports were played out in a league format with the top two teams then proceeding to the finals on Saturday. The football team managed to reach the final of the tournament but crashed out losing 3-0 to Homenetmen Paris. Second place was not a bad result considering they have only been playing together for 6 weeks in comparison to the 6 years of football the French have under their belts.
The basketball team did not fair as well as the footballers, finishing in fifth place. This result does not bear justice to their performances however, as three of their games were very close calls, and could have gone either way. The injustice of finishing second or fifth was on a knife-edge. Not all was lost however as the fair play trophy was awarded to this deserving team.
Both teams played very well during the tournament, and as the days went on, it was obvious that these trips not only bring us valuable experience in competitive sporting fixtures, but they also bring the team closer together. From a social perspective, on Thursday night, we were taken to dinner at Diamante Armenian Restaurant in the heart of Paris, on Friday night we were treated to a tour of the romantic city by coach and on Saturday our hosts provided live music and plenty of entertainment at the dinner & dance. The Londoners pretty much entertained everyone on all of these nights. We also do weddings, christenings etc...
We thank our friends at Homenetmen Paris for organising such a great tournament and for inviting us once again. We hope that our singing filled your hearts with joy.
