Coaching Achievement Congratulations to the ladies basketball team coach, Sevan Artin, for passing his coaching exams and achieving Level 2 certification this year. His studies continue in order for him to achieve Level 1 certification in the near future. New Appointments Some of the most beneficial aspects of having a coach include direction setting and the introduction of team organisation & structure. For many, the experience of a relationship that is completely dedicated to supporting a player's success is also an important factor. This year, both the men's senior and junior football teams have been introduced to professional football coaching which over the last 8 months has resulted in significant player improvement. We hope this trend will continue under the direction of newly appointed replacement coach Klauss Celadon. In recent weeks, the men's basketball team has also been getting in to gear under the guidance of professional team coach, Pete Deppisch. We hope that the outcome of this appointment will be as favourable as that for the football teams. Men's Football Friendlies On Sunday 13th April Homenetmen London football team played host to a Spanish team at Brunel's University Sports Hall in Osterley. After a sluggish start and some fine play from the visitors, Homenetmen were trailing 8-4 going into the last ten minutes. As Time started to run out Homenetmen stepped up a gear and scored four quick goals but still ran out losers 8-9. Therefore the Spaniards gained revenge for defeat in the corresponding fixture the week before. Despite this defeat there were several good performances and the team continues to improve. Source:- Alex Katsouris On Sunday 29th June, our UEFA B qualified coach, Leigh, arranged a friendly home game for the Homenetmen Senior Football team. Having improved greatly under his stewardship since February 2003, we felt confident going into the game on this sunny Sunday afternoon. After our exploits in Geneva, we were transformed into an organised, tightly knit compact team, attacking like the Liverpool of old. The game itself was an education for us all as we were faced with an opposition littered with semi-professional footballers. It was a great experience going back to school against players who were due to have trials at a host of top London Clubs. We learnt a lot, and conceded a whole lot more as we eventually lost 9-4 against this impeccable dream team. Source:- Ronnie Sarkisian |
